Iron Removal & Softner Plants

Significant amounts of iron in water impart a pungent characteristic, metallic taste and cause oxidized precipitates. The colour of water may be yellowish brown or reddish brown that makes water unsuitable for domestic purposes. In addition, iron can cause staining of fixtures, sinks, flooring, and almost anything else it comes into contact with, also contributing to the block-age of pipes. For complete iron and manganese removal process, an iron removal filter is utilized. For domestic (home) and light applications, portable iron removal filters are enough, while for commercial and industrial use large iron removal (de- ironing) plants are required. Iron is an objectionable constituent in drinking water. The process through which iron is removed from water is known as Oxidation Filtration that involves the oxidation of the dissolved forms of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) to their residual forms and then removal by filtration. Iron tolerances for municipal or household use should not exceed 0.3ppm. Concentration of iron in excess of 0.2 to 0.3mg may cause muddles in various applications of water.
