PRESSURE SAND FILTER
Pressure Sand Filters are commonly used and a very robust method to remove suspended solids from water. The filtration medium consists of a multiple layer of sand with a variety in size and specific gravity. The filter works by allowing water to percolate down through beds of sand that trap particulates. Sand filters can be supplied in different sizes both hand operated or fully automatic. Sand filtration reduces bacteria, cloudiness, and organic levels thus reducing the need for disinfection and, consequently, the presence of disinfection byproducts in the finished water. As Sand filters require little mechanical power, chemicals or replaceable parts, only minimal operational training and periodic maintenance; they are often an appropriate technology for isolated areas.
